Anti-Police Activism in Boston

Abstract

When the Boston Red Sox came from behind to win fourth straight playoff games to defeat the New York Yankees, students living near Fenway Park spontaneously went into the streets to celebrate. The Boston police responded by using so-called “less lethal weapons,” one of which killed Victoria Snellgrove, a young woman standing on the sidewalk outside the ballpark. By organizing faculty and students throughout the Boston area, we were able to compel the police to ban the deadly weapon that had killed Snellgrove.
